Progetto CMR awarded as the “Best Time Honoured” Italian company in China

On June 13th, in the elegant and refined environment of Shanghai Shangri-la Hotel, Progetto CMR received the Panda Award as the “Best Time Honoured” Italian company in China.

The Award, given every year by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China, celebrates the Italian company that succeeded in distinguishing itself for the sound reputation and long success achieved in the Chinese market.

Massimo Roj, Global CEO and Founder of Progetto CMR, personally received the Prize, during the Gala Award ceremony that gathered more than 500 guests among Italian and Chinese officials and representatives of business Community.

It’s a big honour to receive this important award, which again proves how important China is to us and our company” said Mr Massimo Roj, founder and global CEO of Progetto CMR. “We have believed in the huge potential of this market since the beginning, 13 years ago, a market where we have invested considerably and that has certainly paid back our efforts. This Award, together with all the other positive results achieved along these years and made possible thanks to a great teamwork, further pulls us to promote sustainable and human-centred design in China!”.

It’s really a welcomed award for Progetto CMR teams, which this year celebrated 21 years from its establishment in Milan, and 13 years since its first mission to China. Progetto CMR story began in 1994, when the first office in Milan was set up, currently the company headquarters. Starting with a specific focus on space planning and workplace design, the firm kept on expanding its core activities and project scopes, becoming the leading Italian in integrated design, specialized in urban planning, architecture and interior design.

Following its international approach and philosophy, Progetto CMR began to gradually step out of Italy, opening offices all around the world. Today the firm counts 13 offices and over 160 professionals, figures that, since 2009, have earned it a place among the top 100 architectural firms in the world.

Progetto CMR first entered China in late 2002, establishing offices in Beijing and Tianjin. The projects designed and developed by the Italian company all over these years in China include urban planning, building and interior design, targeting hotel, retail, offices and also residential.

Recently the Italian firm has been working on some large scale urban planning and masterplan projects, with a particular focus on the integration between urban and rural zones; renovation of “historical villages” transforming them in an eco-tourism destination; “family villages” dedicated to aging people as well as to families for their holidays and “R&D Community”, where the traditional R&D park model evolves from a working space into a space to be lived.

An example is the masterplan for the development of a huge rural area in Jiangsu Province to create an Agriculture Demonstration Park, balancing several functions, from agriculture production to eco – touristic attractions and to residential/services area. The turning-key feature of the project is to mix the Italian background with the needs, resources and features of the place.

Another on-going project is the design of a mountain village located in Changbaishan, Jilin Province. The design solutions adopted, inspired by the traditional Italian urban design, aim at creating the first eco-slow village in China, integrating all the necessary functions, from retail to hospitality and residential, without impacting on the surrounding natural environment.
